JUDO

The Huntsville Judo Club at The Matrix is a family-friendly place to learn the sport of Judo.  We accept all levels of students, from those who have heard of Judo, to those who have previously acquired judo rank at another club or school.

What is Judo? Judo is an Olympic sport created by Professor Jigger Kano is 1882 in Tokyo, Japan.  It was a form of traditional Jujitsu (The Gentle Art) that he adapted to be safe for all ages to practice and compete in.  Judo is a grappling (or wrestling-like) sport in which you attempt to throw your opponent to the ground.  In the event you do not defeat your opponent with a throw, you may choose to pin them for 25 seconds, or, for adults and teens, force your opponent to give up by way of submissions techniques.  There are no punches or kicks allowed in Judo competition, however, in order to preserve the sport's martial-art history, there are striking techniques that are taught at higher ranks.

Judo is... Fun and safe for anyone ages 6 and up.  A great way to build self confidence.  It is a great self-defense for everyone.  It is for women, men, boys and girls.  An excellent way to get in shape.  A great addition for mixed martial-artists.  An excellent art for individuals with disabilities.
